When you think about a public toilet the first thing that comes to your mind is: dirt. Maybe the second is: stink. Probably becouse most of the toilets, that we are thinking about, made us feel uncomfortable and disgusted.
Well, today you can finally advise them!
Here you are Bulsarino, the hero of public toilets, or the Toilet Specialist.
So everytime you see a bad toilet you can tell it on Bulsarino. After 5 “warnings” Bulsarino will advise the owner of that location and suggest a toilet relooking.
You can obvioulsy give a positive remark on good toilets as well, and in that case they will receive a good note!
How to get in touch with Bulsarino? Well, on Facebook or Twitter.
Washroom relooking is an easy and low cost way to give a new look (and role) to the existing most democratic location: the toilet.
The original idea is by Bulsara, an italian start-up based in Rome which is specialized in advertising in non-conventional places (such as toilets).
Big creativity and a small budget let realize very original commercial campaigns and at the same time create unusual renovations in places and locations that are usually anonymous or uncomfortable. And I think that the idea of receiving advises from people using the toilets is effective, don’t you?
Actually public conveniences or washrooms are quite underestimated and mistreated, although they are are inevitably one of the most frequented places. So, why don’t we use them as a vehicle for promotional messages?
From the marketing point of view, washroom advertising is perfect.
here are a lot of possibilities that don’t require structural changes or high costs.
It's all true! Since 2006, in the green metal structure where Berlin's public toilets once stood, there is a pub serving burgers with excellent meat and chips in extra large portions. A cheerful place with a rich menu that has reviews on Trip Advisor to make your mouth water. The Burgermeister is located in Berlin, under the U-Bahn viaduct, near the Schlesisches Tor stop. In the winter it offers its burgers inside the former public toilet but in the summer it also puts the tables outdoors.
Berlin has been able to give value to the public toilets of the past, not abandoning them but skilfully renovating the old structures and changing their use: where once there were toilets, today there are pubs, restaurants, florists, newsstands. The Burgermeister is not the only place serving snacks in former public toilets. According to Mitte, Nil and Le Cous Cous should also be mentioned. The first is a restaurant serving Sudanese cuisine set in a former urinal in Kottbusser Damm, while the second is a place offering typical North African specialties.
Knowing how to reinvent a place that was created for completely different purposes by exploiting its architectural charm is an intelligent, not obvious idea.
London has also begun to reuse the ancient and spectacular nineteenth-century structures of Foley Street to open business activity, for example the spectacular Attendant Café, renovated by Peter Tomlinson, where internally the urinals of the past have been preserved almost intact and externally it is You can admire the elegant Victorian style external metal structure.
It almost seems that a real fashion has exploded in the British cit... that stated renovating public toilets.
Apparently Tomlinson is not the only one to have had the idea of converting a public bathroom into a business activity. London architect Laura Jane Clark, for example, used the premises of a toilet to create the mini-apartment in which she lives (in the residential area of Crystal Palace, south of London).
